Christmas Appeal - Target Reached!
Amazing news! This year’s target for the Christmas Appeal has been reached – it currently stands at an amazing £4,184.85! To all who have helped raise and exceed our targets for this year’s Christmas Appeal, thank you so much! Together, we are making a difference in the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and communities in Uganda.
Our first target was to raise £3,000 for:-
21 Pairs of school shoes (£15 each) – for 21 community children supported on the Community Education Support Project. Many currently go to school with no shoes, or with worn out and broken shoes.
The shoes will be purchased in January and will make a huge difference for these children. It is very uncomfortable stepping on marram stones or mud in bare feet, especially early in the morning on a rainy day, but these children have been going through it every day. They admired others whose parents can afford shoes, but due to the extreme poverty in their homes, some basic needs are forfeited to meet the most pressing needs at the time - shoes are usually looked on as a luxury in such families. Next term, thanks to all who gave, they will be going to school with school shoes.
37 Food Packages (£36 each) – for community families, families of resettled children, and families of staff who give their time each Christmas. Each package includes bread, sugar, soda, eggs, spices, margarine, beef, chicken, pasta, cooking oil, milk, and contains enough food for 20 meals.
Christmas Party (£10 each) – a party at a water and play park for all the children at the Children’s Home, and those supported in the community (75 in total). Also included is chicken and chips, and soda.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas Party this year - it is lovely to see them enjoying themselves so much! Here are some photos, but more will be posted on Facebook between 7pm and 8pm tonight!
Christmas Food (£10 each) – Christmas food for the Children’s Home for the Christmas Season’s celebrations – enough to feed 60 people.
All children and staff look forward to Christmas, and this year is no exception. Christmas in Uganda is a time for celebration, a time for feasting, and a time for singing and dancing.
The target was then increased to £3,840 so that we could also provide 45 pairs of school shoes for children at the Children's Home, and 9 suitcases for children who are leaving the Children’s Home and being reintegrated into families, either through resettlement or foster placement. These will all be purchased in the New Year.
We are extremely grateful for your support for the Christmas Appeal, and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas!
If you would still like to donate to the Christmas Appeal, it is still open, however, any further donations received will be used towards the general running costs of the Children’s Home, and for the education of the children for the next school term, which starts in February 2019.
