Tŷ Cariad Africa was established in 2003 following a visit by Paul Thomas (Chaplain to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service). Paul’s visit to the Uganda Fire and Rescue Service HQ in Kampala coincided with a local firefighting team’s return from an incident where they rescued two babies who had been dropped into a pit latrine in an outlying village. Sadly, these babies died, and Paul shared in the fire crew’s distress. He informed Pastors Joseph and Freda Serwadda (Senior Pastors of Victory Christian Centre) about this tragedy, and during the conversation that followed, the vision for a children’s home run by Victory Child Care Project with financial support from Tŷ Cariad Africa was conceived. Tŷ Cariad Africa is registered as a UK charity in England and Wales, number 1124100.
Tŷ Cariad Africa has supported the work of Victory Child Care Project over the years, and the provision of service and impact has greatly increased year after year. It has now changed to better reflect the needs of each child, with the focus at all times to provide family-based care wherever possible. As a result, we now provide Residential Care, Temporary Care, Resettlement, Foster Care, Adoption, Community Support and Education.
Victory Child Care Project is the main project that Tŷ Cariad Africa supports, although we also partner with other projects working in Uganda with similar aims and objectives.
Since 2003, Tŷ Cariad Africa has been keen to explore, learn and develop its provision and support for orphans, vulnerable children and communities. We have always looked for ways to help those in need, and have focused our availability to develop our ability.
We have seen the project in Uganda develop from a home which catered for a handful of children, to one which now looks after over 50 children, has cared for over 100 children who needed temporary care, is actively involved in fostering children, supports communities, and helps to strengthen and empower other projects in Uganda to develop their potential which in turn supports more orphans, vulnerable children and communities.
We are excited at what the future holds for Tŷ Cariad Africa, and are constantly looking to expand the projects we are involved in, and making a difference to those we support. We continue to strive towards relieving poverty, sickness, and distress, and providing education.
